TEXT 7
This following text is for questions 24 to 27
Most societies today expect that women will play their major role by caring for a home and family. The differences between men and women in a society are taught very early in childhood, and boys and girls grow up to be what men and women in that society are expected to be.
But the present economic system forces women and girls to try to find jobs outside the home. They try to earn their living to support the family. In rural areas, agriculture is so important that usually men and boys in a family help by planting and taking care of crops, or by preparing food. And so do women and girls.
In urban areas, most production comes from manufacturing, such as making clothing, assembling electronic devices, packaging drugs, packaging cigarettes, etc. Most workers in a shoe industry, chemical industry, textile industry are women workers.
More and more woman workers are trying to find jobs in foreign countries. They are usually sent by non-governmental organizations. They work in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. They work as housekeepers, housemaids, cooks, babysitters and nurses. Before being sent abroad they are trained in Jakarta for several weeks.

TEXT 8
This following text is for questions 28 to 31
Should Students Take Part-time Jobs?
One of the biggest things a student must figure out upon entering school is what to
do with all that time. Free to schedule as they please and free from the obligations of life at
home, students find themselves with a wealth of time they may or may not have.
There are things which you might consider working. First of all, if you want to be cool
and go out with your classmates and buy some cool stuff, well you need money! By getting
a job, you get money. Of course, you have to work for it, but still, it can - and probably will
- be useful. There is not only money to consider though. Experience is an important asset for
after finishing your school. When you work during your school year and add it to your resume,
it will show your future employers that you are able to manage to pursue two activities at
the same time, or more if you are involved elsewhere. Another interesting thing to consider
is the contacts you might make by working. By contacts, I mean people that can be useful
to you later in life. If you have different jobs, you make new references you can later add to
your CV along with the experience. Also, if you are lucky enough to get a job in your area of
studies, it may later become a permanent job.
The main disadvantage on your life is that you will have less time for schoolwork - and
social life of course. This also means you get less free time to just hang out or party or do
other stuff than work and study. This is an important part of your life if you do not want to
go all crazy! It is also important if you want to be cool. Having a job can also add another
source of stress to your life. Depending on the type of job you are looking for, you may get a
boss that always wants more hours and presses you to be more available. One of the things
you can do is to set yourself a maximum number of hours you want to work per week and
make this clear with your employer at the beginning of the year.
My biggest recommendation is not to rush into anything. It’s perfectly acceptable to
spend the first few weeks of school adjusting and having fun, and then slide a job into the
mix when you’ve grown comfortable with everything else. Finally, never allow an outside
job to get in the way of your health and school years in general. While work may keep you
motivated and get you needed money, it’s not worth losing your education or well being over.
Obtain what you need, but if you feel yourself slipping take some time off, or find a better
place to work. You’ll have plenty of time to work post school.

TEXT 11
This following text is for questions 39 to 40
This is the way an omelette shouldbe made. It is important that the fryingpanshould be propor tionate to thenumber of eggs; in other words, tothe size of the omelette. The fryingpanmust be made of iron, not ofaluminium, tin or enamel. And hereI feel I must stress a point essential towhat might be called the backgroundof omelette-making, namely that thefrying-pan must never be washed withwater but rubbed, when hot, with saltand tissue–paper, as this is the onlyway to prevent sticking.
For three portions, we take six eggs, break them into a bowl, season them withsalt and freshly ground pepper, and adda good teaspoonful of water. We beat thislightly with a fork or the wire–broom, notthe whisk, until large bubbles form onthe top. This takes half a minute; it is fatalto beat too long. Meanwhile, our fryingpanis getting hot, not too hot, and wedrop in an ounce and a half of butter, orbutter and best lard, over a quick flamefor a minute or two, until it gives nomore froth and has turned light golden. We give our egg-mixture another stirand pour it into the fan, letting it spreadevenly over the frying–pan.
All this is a swift business, and wemay well feel a few extra heart–beatsand a little breath lessness at thatmoment. The flame is now turned downa little. With a fork or palette-knife (afork seems to work particularly well)we loosen the edges of the omeletteall round and, once or twice, in themiddle, letting the liquid flow into theempty spaces, taking care always tomove towards the middle.
This takes about two minutes. Then, keeping as calm as we possiblycan, we fold it. This is easy if we foldover and pin down with two or threefork-pricks about an inch and-a-halfof the omelette along one side. Then,it is quite easy to roll it into shape. Our omelette should be golden brownoutside and wet inside: baveuse, as theclassical French term says. It is then slidon to a hot plate and its surface madeshiny with a little butter. This last touchmakes all the difference.

TEXT IV

THE SUN AS A SOURCE OF ENERGY
As the supplies of fossil fuels-coal, oil and gas are running out, scientists have been working hard trying to find ways of obtaining other kinds of fuel. They have succeeded in finding one that is very efficient: nuclear fuel. However, the ores, which produce this kind of energy, e.g. uranium ores, will eventually run out, too. Fortunately a source of abundant energy, which is virtually inexhaustible-sunlight has been waiting for the scientist.
The sun sends out energy equal to that produced by 10.000 million tons of coal every second, of which the earth receives falls on one two billionth part. It is estimated that energy, which falls on one square meter of the earth’s surface per second, can be used to keep about seven 100-watt lamps burning. The sun’s energy is really abundant, but only a limited amount has so far been used by man.
The sun can also be used as source of fuel for power plants. Such power plants are still in the experimental stages. However, it is hoped that they will lead the way to a wider use of telephone solar energy to run machines.
Solar energy can be used in telephone communications, space technology, and farming. Solar batteries have been in experimental use for number of years to power telephone lines. They are now being used to recharge batteries which power instruments used in space vehicles. Scientists have also succeeded in developing solar pumps that can raise water for irrigation.
The sun seems to be an ideal source of energy for great many uses. Yet to change the abundant sunlight into energy is a different matter, The instruments needed to catch the sun’s energy are still very expensive
However, once man succeeds in catching even a small part the energy, nobody would worry about running out of fossil or uranium ores.
It lies in the hands of the scientists to make this come true.
22.Why do people worry about oil and coal as sources? Because…
  1. They are decreasing in Quality.
  2. They are very efficient kinds of fuel.
  3. They will run out in the course of time.
  4. They are inexhaustible sources of energy.
  5. There are abundant fossil fuels on the earth.
23. Solar energy has been used in many different fields.

TEXT 5
Yesterday we discussed the problem of rising prices, or, in the economist’s terms, inflation. We noted that during the periods of inflation, all prices and incomes do not rise at the same rate. Some incomes rise more slowly than the cost of living, and a few do not rise at all. Other incomes rise more rapidly than the cost of living.
We concluded that persons with fixed incomes, as, for example, the elderly who depend upon pensions, and persons with slow-rising incomes as, for example, an employee with a salary agreed to in long-term contract, will be more seriously affected by inflation. Please recall that while their dollar incomes stay the same, the cost of goods and services rises, and in effect, real income decreases, that is, they are able to purchase less with the same amount of money.
We also talked about the fact that stockholders and persons with business interests and investments would probably benefit most from inflation, since high prices would increase sales receipts, and profits would likely rise faster than the cost of living.
